History of the Blue Ridge Church of Christ
The Blue Ridge Church of Christ was established in 1995 through the vision and faith of nine dedicated brothers and the spiritual guidance of Brother Harold Redd, minister of the Midtown Church of Christ in Memphis, Tennessee. These men formed the congregation’s Board of Trustees, laying the spiritual and organizational foundation for the work that would grow in the years ahead.
The founding trustees were Robert Bronston, Thurman Crosby, F.D. Graves, Elvin Raglon, Tucson Redd Sr., Carson Ross, Willie Wrice, Brian Wroten, and William Wroten. Together they worked to meet the spiritual needs of the congregation while also supporting outreach efforts within the surrounding community, with some continuing to faithfully serve even today.
Through their faith, commitment, and the support of many dedicated Christians, the congregation purchased 2.5 acres of land and a building at 9603 Blue Ridge Boulevard in Kansas City, Missouri. While renovations were completed, the congregation temporarily leased a building at 12516 Blue Ridge Boulevard.
The first worship service of the Blue Ridge Church of Christ was held on May 7, 1995. On January 7, 1996, the congregation moved into the renovated building at 9603 Blue Ridge Boulevard, which has served as its home for worship and ministry. In December 1998, the sanctuary was expanded, reflecting the continued growth of the congregation and its commitment to providing a place for worship, fellowship, and service.
Throughout its history, Blue Ridge has been blessed by faithful ministers who served the congregation during different seasons of its development. Among those who have served the congregation are Brothers Ephren Taylor Sr., Luis Lugo Jr., O.B. Butler Jr., Bruce McClure, Charlie Wells, Cedric Finley, Laron Evans, and David Tillmon Sr. Through their teaching, leadership, and service, each contributed to strengthening the congregation and supporting its spiritual growth.
In 2010, the congregation undertook another significant step forward by enhancing its facilities with the addition of a new building that included a sanctuary, classrooms, office, kitchen and restrooms. This expansion was made to support both the current needs and future growth of the congregation.
Following the challenges of the pandemic, in 2021 Brother Richard Fisher Jr. began serving as minister. Under his leadership, the congregation has experienced spiritual growth, renewed fellowship, and a strengthened focus on service and outreach.
In 2026, the Blue Ridge Church of Christ reached a historic milestone with the ordination of its first deacons ever in their 30-year history, Brother Melvin Ray Pettis and Brother Andre Tillmon Sr.! This significant moment reflects the congregation’s continued spiritual maturity and commitment to following the biblical pattern for leadership within the church.
Since its beginning in 1995, the Blue Ridge Church of Christ has remained committed to worshiping God in spirit and in truth, strengthening one another in faith, and sharing the gospel of Christ. With gratitude for those who laid the foundation and trust in God’s continued guidance, the congregation looks forward to continuing to grow in faith and ministry while faithfully serving the Lord and the community for years to come.
